Timetable

The Curriculum taught at Heroes is varied and creative 

Animal Care - Heroes has its own Animal Farm and daily our animals need to be fed, groomed, exercised, pens and cages cleaned.  Students will learn about the nutrition of the animals, their habitat, and their handling. The animals we presently have on site are 2 Chincullas,2 Gerbils, 2 Rats, 3 Bearded Dragons,1 Snake, 5 Rabbits,  3 Guinea Pigs, 2 Lambs,  3 Pigs, 17 Piglets,  8 Chickens, 4 Ducks, 2 Dogs and 2 Miniture Shetland Pony.

Maths - Maths is learnt through the animal farm, in the form of measuring, weighing, graphs, percentages, students also get chance to get involved working with money the cafe, learning maths through cooking, and working outside in the environment and with their entrepreneural projects. Maths is also taught online with our computer programmes.

 

Literacy, Science, IT and PSHE will arise naturally as the children become involved in practical and meaningful activities such as caring for animals, growing plants in our herb and veg garden, keeping records of temperatures, cooking, working as a team on  entrepreneural projects for fund raising, updating our websites and blogs.

Art - We cover all art, Mosiacs, Wood work, Glass painting, Collage, Scultpure, Drawing, Painting, Abstract, Pottery,Famous Artists.

Sports - Hockey, Football, Badminton, Water Sports, Wall Climbing, Bike Riding, Rounders

Discussion - A chance for everyone to have their say on the many varied subjects we talk about.  Discussion is done in small groups at set times and encouraged in an autonomous way so young people can express themselves at all times, they learn to listen to each other and accept difference of opinions and be acceptable of others.

Cooking - Fresh soups using ingredients from our veg Garden, fresh bread, fresh pasta, sauces, and curries, potatoes dishes.  We learn all about the nutritional values, show students how to read labels, understand the vitamin content of our vegetable and our food and learn how much ingredients cost.

Gardening - looking after our herb and veg garden, planting new plants, watering the flowers

Drama
Improvisations, acting, public speaking, miming, poetry

Drama Lamda - Examination in Drama, goes right through to equivalent of GCSE

Yoga - Gentle yoga exercises to keep your body and mind alert

Spanish

Spanish conversation taught in small groups.

Bike Maintenance

Young people will be taught how to change a tyre, fix a puncture, adjust brakes and gears, everything you need to know about keeping your bike in good shape. Bikes are supplied.

Computer Suite

We have a large computer suite loaded up with lots of educational programmes.
